“And indeed, a horse who bears himself proudly is a thing of beauty and astonishment that he attracts the eyes of all beholders. No one will tire of looking at him as long as he will display himself in his splendor.” — Xenophon
This we know to be true—Broadway attracts the eyes of all beholders, we never tire of looking at him, and in everything he does, he displays himself in splendor. We could tell Broadway was a star from the start; he had “the look,” even as just a 2-year-old with15 rides. Since bringing him home, Broadway has met and exceeded all our expectations.
We wanted Broadway to earn his keep as a ranch horse before bringing him to the arena. He spent many long days, gathering, sorting in the pens, dragging calves. Even in those early days in the pasture, we felt something special about this gelding; he was always a horse that was eager to work. It didn’t matter what the work was, Broadway always a step above the rest. With excitement, we watched Broadway grow bigger, stronger, and always ready to take on the next stage in his training. When the time came to put him in front of an audience, he never faltered, and to this day, never has. The bright lights always shine brightest over Broadway.
In 2022, he began his performance career as Rodey’s ranch rodeo horse, and he loved it. The ranching experience really showed its value as Rodey put Broadway to the test in the arena, sorting, heading, heeling. There is no ranch rodeo event Broadway can’t do well. For all the biggest rodeos, Rodey chooses Broadway. In 2024 Broadway was on the winning team at Old Settlers Reunion and Ranch Rodeo and was named Top Horse at the National Western Stock Show. He likes to work a cow, he helps a cowboy get the job done, and he’s level-headed—all attributes of a Top Horse.
We have kept Broadway on the trailer for every trip. He spends the winter with us in Arizona and the rest of the year at home in the Texas Panhandle. We’ve used him at the USTRC Nat’lFinals, the World Series Finale in Vegas, and jackpots all along the way. We split time on Broadway, heading on him from the14 to the 10. He’s not a complicated horse and his athletic ability, good mind and big build make for a head horse any header would design. He stands flat, leaves flat, runs hard, is strong and swift across the pen and fast-footed in his face. Days we both get to ride him are the best because it illuminates his ability as a head horse.
This horse defines dependable. If there is a hole in him, we haven’t found it yet. We stand proudly behind Broadway. He is a great example of the horses we strive to make—user-friendly, reliable, ready to win. And as if his character wasn’t enough, we’d be remiss not to spotlight Broadway’s looks, he is a classic Wilson Cattle-type horse— stout-made, pretty-headed, roan a with a long main and tail. He stands 15.2 and pushes the scale to 1,350 pounds. If personality could be measured, Broadway’s is off the charts. He likes people, attention and wants all eyes on him.
Broadway’s good characteristics and looks are easily attributed to a star-studded pedigree. Bet Hesa Cat has produced earners of over $9 million and his contributions to the ranching and performance horse world are endless. His dam, Fancy Boons N All, by Peptoboonsmal, was a star herself, earning $46,484 and 86 AQHA points. She was an NRCHA Open Futurity finalist, NRCHA Limited Open Derby Champion and NRCHA Limited Open Stallion Stakes Reserve Champion. She was a good mare who passed on her great attributes to Broadway.
Topping it all off, with Broadway comes a list of eligible incentives: Riata Buckle; Royal Crown; Gold Buckle Futurities and you could even take him to Ruby Buckle if you wanted! We’ve had so much fun and so much success with Broadway, and we are excited for him to become the star of his new owner’s show.
